Boeing Developmental Center, Building 9-101

Cleanroom Upgrades

The Boeing Aerospace and Defense Group at the Seattle Developmental Center designs, engineers and manufactures various systems, subsystems, and components of some of the most complicated and sensitive high technology defense and commercial aerospace products. These include projects like the NASA Space Station Freedom, the F-22 Stealth Fighter, and others.

Obviously, work of this magnitude and complexity requires large clean room spaces. Their Building 9-101 includes such space. However, the HVAC systems serving these areas were in need of repair, refurbishment and upgrades. To this end Boeing contracted direct with Control Contractors, Inc. to upgrade the existing control system to current TAC I/A and Niagara (UNC) web based technology.

Working on 20 large air handling systems located in catwalks 60 feet above manufacturing systems, products and personnel created a series of challenges not normally encountered during “normal” construction projects. Control Contractors, Inc. dedicated a staff of capable and knowledgeable personnel to manage and install this work. Working closely with the Boeing Construction, Facility and Maintenance staff we were able to sequentially work our way through these systems without having to shut down manufacturing operations at any time.

Repairs to the air handling systems have increase environmental stability is these areas including bringing the temperature and humidity fluctuations back to required standards.
